Contrary to his strong and powerful appearance, Kouji is very timid and quiet. He rarely speaks and prefers using sign language to communicate with his classmates. He hates violence due to his kind-hearted nature. Kouji appears to greatly enjoy the company of animals, as his Quirk allows him to interact with animals in ways others cannot. He owns a small rabbit as a pet.

Kouji's Quirk "Anivoice (生き物ボイス, Ikimono Voice)" gives him the ability to command any creature in the animal kingdom by speaking to them. Whatever command he gives, the animal will carry it out. However, he cannot exert control if they cannot hear his command. The target must also be a real animal and not merely animal-like. Kouji can also exchange information with the animals to find the locations of various people and potential enemies faster. Kouji has been shown to use the Quirk effectively with flocks of birds to create a smokescreen of animals and to attack an opponent, along with his use of insects to distract and attack his opponents. He has now also overcome his fear of bugs, so he often uses bugs to swarm opponents with numbers.
