His talent is Super High School Level Good Luck (超高校級の幸運), meaning he got into Hope's Peak by winning a lottery, rather than being scouted for an extraordinary talent like everyone else. His title is the Ultimate Lucky Student in the English localization.

Makoto is friendly and a lot more down-to-earth than other students. He tends to act passively in conversation. According to him, his most distinguishing feature is his optimism.
